English Language and Literacy Specialist

You are
a dynamic and optimistic EL and Literacy Specialist, with a strong belief that all students can learn at the highest levels. You want to develop professionally, be part of a team, and implement the best practices in English language development and literacy intervention to support our 6th-12th grade students.
We are preparing a diverse group of students to be successful in college and to be thoughtful engaged citizens who are leaders and innovators in a 21st century global world. East Bay Innovation Academy (EBIA) is proud to be a free public charter school bringing project-based curriculum, social emotional emphasis, design thinking, and blended learning to students in Oakland, California.
You will
  • Analyze, helping identify the students who need targeted EL and literacy support, as well as designing systems and tools that will measure effectiveness of support and student growth
  • Design, creating and delivering curriculum and supports which strategically address specific student need
  • Engage, working one-on-one and in small groups with a targeted group of students who have the highest need in English language development and literacy
  • Collaborate, partnering with the teachers, education specialists, and administration to understand each student and then to implement EL and literacy supports in their courses
  • Grow, expanding your practice with the support of administration and colleagues
You have
  • A teaching credential, or are working towards one
  • Experience with English Language Development and literacy intervention
  • Proven ability to connect with students, understand their specific needs, and be a partner
  • Experience engaging students with insightful and innovative learning strategies and supports
  • A commitment to equity and a belief that diversity is essential
  • An entrepreneurial spirit, ready to create and iterate, to adopt new technologies and to blaze trails
You might also have
  • Experience with project based learning, social-emotional learning, and/or blended learning
  • Knowledge of another language
  • A Masters degree
