East Bay Innovation Academy (EBIA) is a college preparatory public charter school in Oakland, CA serving students in grades 6-8. Our mission is to prepare a diverse group of students to succeed in college and to become thoughtful, engaged citizens who are leaders and innovators in a 21st-century global world. OPPORTUNITY
EBIA seeks a dynamic and experienced Middle School Principal to lead the school beginning in the 2026–27 academic year. The Principal will drive academic achievement while cultivating a strong and supportive school culture for students and staff. This leader will oversee instructional quality, support and develop teachers, and serve as a visible community leader who builds strong partnerships with families and community stakeholders.
 

RESPONSIBILITIES

School Leadership

  • Lead the implementation of school systems and academic programming.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Principal and Dean of Culture to implement school-wide initiatives.
  • Supervise teachers and support hiring, onboarding, and retention efforts.
  • Maintain EBIA’s commitment to project-based and experiential learning, ensuring teachers have the resources needed to effectively integrate these approaches across grade levels.
  • Develop strong relationships with students, staff, and families, ensuring open communication and responsive problem solving.
  • Ensure all staff have clear supervision structures and receive regular feedback, coaching, and evaluation.
  • Partner with student culture staff to address Tier 2 and Tier 3 behavioral supports.
     

Instructional Leadership

  • Ensure high expectations for student learning and achievement in every classroom.
  • Develop and implement a rigorous coaching and observation cycle focused on improving instruction.
  • Use assessment and data systems to inform instructional decisions and monitor student progress.
  • Ensure curricular alignment with state standards and maintain consistency across grade levels and classrooms.
  • Promote culturally responsive, anti-racist, and pro-Black instructional practices.
  • Support staff in delivering rigorous, engaging instruction and meaningful student work.
  • Collaborate with the Special Education team to ensure effective implementation of 504 plans, IEPs, and counseling support.
     

Family and Community Engagement

  • Build strong partnerships with families to support student success.
  • Communicate regularly with families about student progress, school policies, and major events.
  • Coordinate family meetings, events, and community engagement opportunities.
  • Address family questions and concerns promptly and constructively.
     

Staff Culture and Development

  • Recruit, hire, and develop a high-performing and diverse staff committed to student success.
  • Build a staff culture grounded in trust, collaboration, reflection, and continuous improvement.
  • Facilitate conversations and professional learning that support anti-racist and pro-Black practices.
  • Lead the site Leadership Team to advance school priorities and strategic goals.
  • Design and implement high-quality professional development aligned to student outcomes.
  • Clearly communicate EBIA’s mission, priorities, and programs to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support strong staff retention and leadership development.
     

Administrative and Operational Leadership (in collaboration with Envision Schools)

  • Oversee day-to-day school operations and ensure a safe, well-functioning learning environment.
  • Manage school compliance requirements and operational systems.
  • Supervise facilities and ensure effective facility management.
  • Lead enrollment efforts to maintain full enrollment and a strong waitlist.
     

Governance and Network Leadership

  • Participate as a member of the Envision Principal Team, collaborating with other principals and network leaders.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the network’s educational vision and strategic priorities.
  • Partner with the CEO and Superintendent of Schools to represent the school to the charter authorizer and other external stakeholders.

QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
  • Proven instructional leadership and experience leading high-performing schools.
  • Experience supporting innovative instructional models such as project-based learning.
  • Strong experience recruiting, coaching, and developing educators and school staff.
  • Exceptional relationship-building skills with students, families, and colleagues.
  • A deep commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Strong understanding of the academic and social-emotional needs of diverse learners.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Administrative Services credential preferred.
     

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • California teaching credential
  • Minimum of 5 years of successful classroom teaching experience

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
EBIA offers a competitive salary range of $130,000-$150,000, along with a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, and retirement benefits. Additional details are available upon request.
