Position Overview & Reporting Structure

Under the supervision of the Lead Education Specialist, the Education Specialist manages a caseload of Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), implements push-in and pull-out instructional models, and collaborates closely with teachers and instructional assistants to ensure accommodations and modifications are executed with fidelity. Working in partnership with school administrators, the Education Specialist bridges specialized academic support with trauma-informed, student-centered classroom practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage an assigned caseload of IEPs, ensuring full compliance with IDEA, state SELPA regulations, and timeline mandates. Draft, facilitate, and execute comprehensive IEPs using the Special Education Information System (SEIS) platform.

• Design and deliver high-rigor, differentiated academic instruction through push-in and pull-out service models to ensure equitable access to Common Core State Standards.

• Administer standardized academic assessments (e.g., KTEA-4, WIAT-4) and diagnostic evaluations. Synthesize quantitative and qualitative data to write comprehensive educational evaluation reports for IEP meetings.

• Partner with general education teachers to co-plan, co-teach, and embed classroom accommodations, modifications, and universal design for learning (UDL) strategies across instructional environments.

• Oversee the development and daily implementation of student Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs). Utilize Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI) frameworks and de-escalation techniques in partnership with the Culture and Climate team.

• Systematically collect, track, and analyze student achievement data to monitor progress on quarterly IEP goals and adjust instructional strategies accordingly.

• Provide daily scheduling, guidance, and instructional direction for Instructional Assistants to support individualized student goals and classroom inclusion.

• Maintain regular, transparent communication with families and caregivers, ensuring they are active, informed partners in their child’s educational progress and IEP planning.

• Actively participate in Coordination of Services Team (COST) meetings, Student Study Teams (SST), and interdisciplinary care teams with speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, and school counselors.

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university required; Master’s degree in Education or related field preferred.

• Valid California Education Specialist Instruction Credential (Mild/Moderate or Extensive Support Needs) required. (Candidates holding a valid California Education Specialist Intern Credential or actively enrolled in an approved credentialing program will also be considered).

• Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience in an urban public or charter school setting with middle school or adolescent learners preferred.

• Bilingual fluency in Spanish is strongly preferred to serve EBIA’s Multilingual Learner community effectively.
