East Bay Innovation Academy is seeking a dynamic, innovative, and passionate Spanish teacher with experience to help us grow our new charter school.
 
East Bay Innovation Academy is a 6-12 college preparatory public charter school in Oakland, CA with a mission of preparing a diverse group of students to be successful in college and to be thoughtful, engaged citizens who are leaders and innovators in a 21st century global world.  Through personalization and leveraging best practices in curriculum design and technology, EBIA engages students using competencies necessary for productive lives as citizens in a dynamic, increasingly competitive global world.  We have a collaborative, multi-disciplinary model that incorporates technology, blended learning, social-emotional learning, project-based learning and data driven instruction. We serve a truly diverse background of students, representing the racial, cultural, and socio-economic demographics in the surrounding area.
 
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
  • INNOVATIVE: Teach Spanish, including project-based curriculum design, lesson and assessment planning.  Be a true partner in the academic success of students including monitoring of individual progress, partnership with department and grade level colleagues and the education specialist to design and implement supports, host regular student office hours, etc.
  • ENTREPRENEURIAL:  Understand, promote and support the mission, vision and guiding principles of EBIA.
  • COLLABORATIVE: Be a key player in the development of a newly launched school in year 5, including being a teacher leader and assisting in the development and implementation of school policies and programs.  Build a culture of high expectations offering differentiated supports for all learners.  Act as an advisor to 15-20 students and teach advisory curriculum.
  • OPTIMISTIC:  Demonstrate excitement about learning and engaging children in learning; attempt to know every student at EBIA.
  • ENGAGING:  Be ready to bring your 'outside the school' passions, projects and skills to EBIA's labs and shops.

QUALIFICATIONS
 
Required
  • Bachelor’s degree and valid teaching secondary school credential in appropriate subject.
  • Experience with Spanish language curriculum, preferably in a blended and project-based learning environment.
  • A strong belief that all students can learn at the highest levels and that all students can be successful in college.
  • Self-starter, willing to innovate and create new student-centered, blended and project-based curricula.
  • Ability to work successfully with heterogeneous groups of students and an ethnically & economically diverse student body.
  • Highly proficient in using technology and interested in the potential of technology to impact urban education.
  • Strong interest in implementing successful data driven instruction and a data driven culture.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to change; ability to work in a dynamic, creative and demanding learning environment.
  • Driven adult learner dedicated to his or her own professional growth, including learning new and innovative teaching practices.
 
Preferred
  • Experience with AP Spanish curriculum.
  • Knowledge of project based learning, social-emotional learning, and blended/optimized learning.
  • Extracurricular hobbies/passions that can be incorporated into Innovator time and/or class projects
  • MA/MS in Education or Subject Area
