Are you interested in preparing students to be the innovators and leaders? East Bay Innovation Academy is seeking a dynamic, innovative, and passionate Director of Innovative Instruction for our Upper School.
 
East Bay Innovation Academy is a 6-12 college preparatory public charter school in Oakland, CA with a mission of preparing a diverse group of students to be successful in college and to be thoughtful, engaged citizens who are leaders and innovators in a 21st century global world.  Through personalization and project-based learning, social-emotional learning and design thinking, and by leveraging best practices in curriculum design and technology, EBIA engages students in rigorous, 21st Century work.  We serve a diverse population of students, representing the racial, cultural, and socio-economic diversity of the Bay Area.
 
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
 
Serve as the sources of strategy, design and innovation for EBIA’s curricular programs.  Lead, manage and oversee instruction at EBIA, including establishing an innovative and sustaining education program to ensure academic performance of students.
 
The Director will be responsible for ensuring the school meets the following academic goals;
 
  • Establishment of an innovative curriculum and a cutting-edge instructional model:
    • Develop, and build understanding among faculty and students, an innovative instructional vision, with ambitious goals for student learning and teacher development that is aligned to the school’s mission and vision
    • Build and lead a high-performing instructional team to collaborate on design, development and delivery of curriculum.
    • The core curriculum is built around project-based learning and includes an experiential learning (Maker) strategy.
    • Design thinking is integrated throughout all curriculum.
    • The instructional model includes a blended learning model (flex model).
    • Student learning data is used to drive instruction.
    • Alignment exists between curriculum, programs, teacher practice, instructional materials and tools, and technology  
  • Recruit, develop and retain an innovative teaching faculty:
    • Recruit high quality, diverse applicants for the Upper School faculty.
    • Manage the professional development program for Upper School faculty.
    • Manage the observation, evaluation and PEP processes for Upper School faculty.
  • Academics
    • Ensure presentation of student learning via annual exhibitions of student work.
    • Ensure design and system approval of Upper School A-G and AP courses.
    • Ensure students have universal access for A-G and AP courses.
    • Ensure at least 70% of students demonstrate one year of growth each year.
    • Ensure at least 75% of students are proficient or above on SBAC assessments and  reach Personal Learning Plan goals.
    • Ensure at least 85% of students demonstrate college preparedness.
    • Ensure 95% students reach mastery of skills and content in each of their courses  
      • Implement response to intervention plan and supports for struggling students
      • A majority of students are proficient on all benchmark and state/national assessments (including subgroups)  
    • 75% of all students achieve technical fluency evidenced by use of software to achieve goals and software coding ability.
    • 75% of students will meet goals of the social emotional learning rubric
    • Ensure EBIA meets all state and national testing requirements.
  • In collaboration with the school Director, build a school culture, for students and adults that embodies EBIA’s core values: Respect, Perseverance, Curiosity, Kindness, Conscientiousness, Citizenship and Leadership
  • Understand, promote and support the mission, vision and guiding principles of the school

QUALIFICATIONS
 
Required
  • Bachelor’s degree and above in aligned area(s) of student support and supervision.
    Valid teaching or admin credential. 
  • Experience supporting the social-emotional and behavioral needs of students, along with family engagement and community building.
  • A strong belief that all students can learn at the highest levels and that all students can be successful in college.
  • Self-starter, willing to innovate and create new blended and project-based curricula.
  • Ability to work successfully with heterogeneous groups of students and an ethnically & economically diverse student body.
  • Highly proficient in using technology and interested in the potential of technology to impact urban education.
  • Strong interest in implementing successful data driven instruction and a data driven culture.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to change; ability to work in a dynamic, creative and demanding learning environment.
  • Driven adult learner dedicated to his or her own professional growth, including learning new and innovative teaching practices.
 
Preferred
  • Working knowledge of another language.
  • Knowledge of project based learning, social-emotional learning, and blended/optimized learning.
  • MA/MS in Education or Subject Area
