East Bay Innovation Academy is seeking a dynamic, innovative, and passionate Fitness Teacher to help us grow our new charter school.
East Bay Innovation Academy is a 6-12 college preparatory public charter school in Oakland, CA with a mission of preparing a diverse group of students to be successful in college and to be thoughtful, engaged citizens who are leaders and innovators in a 21st century global world.  Through personalization and project-based learning, and leveraging best practices in curriculum design and technology, EBIA engages students in 21st Century work, using competencies necessary for productive lives as citizens in a dynamic, increasingly competitive global world.  We have a collaborative, multi-disciplinary model that incorporates technology, blended learning, social-emotional learning, service learning and data driven instruction. We serve a truly diverse background of students, representing the racial, cultural, and socio-economic demographics in the surrounding area. 
  • Collaborate with the Fitness department to further develop an innovative 6-12th grade Physical Fitness curriculum and program that incorporates social and emotional learning and creates an environment where all students can be successful.
  • Teach PE to High school students, including setting physical fitness goals, and offering a wide variety of curriculum and activities.
  • Act as an advisor to 15-20 students and teach advisory curriculum focused on social and emotional learning.
  • Understand, promote, support, and embody the mission, vision and guiding principles of EBIA.
  • Be a key player in continuing the development of a newly launched school, including being a teacher leader and assisting with the development and implementation of school policies and programs.
  • Build a culture of high expectations: demonstrate excitement about learning and excitement about engaging children in learning; attempt to know every student attending the school. 
  • Be ready to bring your 'outside the school' passions, projects and skills to EBIA's labs and shops.
Complete additional duties and tasks as required by the Executive Director to better support the learning of all students at EBIA.
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Experience working with youth, and a background in physical fitness and sports.
  • Strong and effective student-center and project-based instructional practice.
  • A strong belief that all students can learn at the highest levels and that all students can be successful in college.
  • Ability to work successfully with heterogeneous groups of students and an ethnically & economically diverse student body.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to change; ability to work in a dynamic, creative and demanding learning environment.
  • Driven adult learner dedicated to his or her own professional growth, including learning new and innovative teaching practices. 
  • CA Teaching credential
  • Working knowledge of another language.
  • Extracurricular hobbies/passions that can be incorporated into Innovator time and/or class projects
