East Bay Innovation Academy (EBIA) is searching for talented classroom educators to step into positions as Substitute Teachers. EBIA is a 6-12 college preparatory public charter school in Oakland, CA with a mission of preparing a diverse group of students to be successful in college and to be thoughtful, engaged citizens who are leaders and innovators in a 21st century global world.  Through personalization and project-based learning, and leveraging best practices in curriculum design and technology, EBIA will engage students in 21st Century work, using competencies necessary for productive lives as citizens in a dynamic, increasingly competitive global world.  We have a collaborative, multi-disciplinary model that incorporates technology, blended learning, social-emotional learning, service learning and data driven instruction. We hope to serve a truly diverse background of students, representing the racial, cultural, and socio-economic demographics in the surrounding area. 
Every EBIA teacher is expected to act as a classroom teacher, a mentor and a leader. Daily work with students is combined with responsibilities to counsel students towards college and to play an active role in running the school site. As a strategic partner to EBIA, the Substitute teacher is responsible for executing the short- and mid-term learning experiences for EBIA teachers who are temporarily absent from their classrooms.
The Teacher has responsibilities in three main areas:
  • Providing outstanding teaching and learning experiences throughout the school year, that offer multiple access points for students
  • Supervising and maintaining a coherent and effective system used by EBIA to ensure all teacher absences receive substitute cover
  • Completing administration and business tasks necessary to support the Executive Director completing logistics around student support
  • Bachelor’s degree and teacher training qualification required.
  • A California Teaching Credential (or equivalent)
  • Ability to work successfully with heterogeneous groups of students and an ethnically & economically diverse student body.
  • Proficient in using technology and interested in the potential of technology to impact urban education.
  • Working knowledge of Spanish
  • Master’s Degree in Education preferred
  • A strong belief that all students can learn at the highest levels and that all students can be successful in college.
  • 2+ years as a teacher, instructor and/or coach
  • Knowledge of project based learning, social-emotional learning, and blended/optimized learning.
